Flea FAQs.

What are fleas?

Fleas are parasites that feed on blood.

How do I know if my pet has fleas?

You may notice your pet scratching and see fleas deep in your pet’s coat or around your cat’s or dog’s ears. Also, you may notice black specks of flea dirt in their coat.

Can an indoor-only cat catch fleas?

Yes, as other animals or humans in the household can bring fleas in that have jumped onto them outside.

Can my dog catch fleas from other dogs he meets in the park?

Fleas rarely jump from pet to pet. However, your dog could catch fleas from the trail of flea eggs other dogs or wildlife such as rats and rabbits have left behind.

If 95% of a flea problem is in the environment, not on the pet, why is it I can only see fleas on my pet?

The flea life stages that live off the pet – eggs, larvae and pupae – are buried deep into carpets, furnishings and soil and so are very hard to see. It’s not until new fleas hatch from these life stages and jump onto the pet that people are likely to notice them.
